Honda Steering Race Cups
Transform your MX bike with a chassis part that you can instantly feel regardless of riding ability. Adrenaline Engineering Race Cups are bi-directional to allow you to increase or reduce the steering head angle of your bike. Nearly all factory teams are using offset race cups to change the handling characteristics of their bikes but they have normally been one-off prototype parts not offered to the public. No additional bike changes are required. Just install the new steering stem bearings and races with the center marks aligned in the preffered direction (details in provided instructions).
-Why? -Modern MX bikes have been reducing steering head angle more and more over the years to make the bikes feel lighter and turn sharper into corners. The downside is that the bikes become twitchy, unsettled, and difficult to track in a straight line. The front end will also want to knife into corners and be more prone to tank slappers / speed wobbles. This leads to the rider hanging on too tight and getting arm pump sooner.. even though the manufacturer wanted the bike to feel more responsive/lighter.. Strange isn't it?
-So should I kick it in or out?
That depends on how you want the bike to feel, but at least now it can be tuned with different insert options. In most circumstances, kicking the front out is what riders prefer. But for series such as tight track Arena Cross, less steering head angle might be prefered. Too much in either direction is a problem.
Low steering head angle = Less ground trail = More nervous/more responsive bike.
High steering head angle = More ground trail = More stable/slightly less responsive bike.
-0.3 degrees? 0.5 degrees? Custom?
Generally, the faster and more open the track you ride, the larger degree you want.We utilize engineering tools to measure and fully understand each chassis before offering parts for them. We also have riders within SMX and other series that help us gather data on each chassis/discipline. We have recomendations for each bike and can help tailor it to your riding style and terrain so feel free to message us with any questions. Depending on the bike, we can make custom cups anywhere from 0.0 to 1 degree.
-Whats the feedback like?
It is an immediatly noticable change from lap 1 and riders have said they can ride harder for longer without getting tired. With it kicked out, there is a slight bit more bar pressure required to initiate turn in, but once in the corner, it tracks through better and holds a line better. "I can't believe I've raced pro all these years and never tried these.. every bike should come like this" - SMX 450 racer, +0.5 degrees. "I just tried them and was able to ride twice as long at my home track without getting tired. It's like magic." - Local 30+ 450 B racer, +0.3 degrees.
